from london to a small town called scarborough

goodbye london.

i stayed with bri for my last night in town, and really only had time for lunch with her the next day before it was off to the tube and the airport. it was a low-key day, but it was really good to see her before i left.

. . . .

yesterday, i finished the last of the flying for my trip. the last two legs, from london to dubai and dubai to cape town, were about seventeen hours together. thats about a total of thirty two hours of being in some form of transport from southern maryland on my way to cape town.

being back in south africa has brought back a lot of memories and reminders of the emotional roller-coaster it can be. it also has brought back my love for the majestic landscapes here and the attitude of living outside of america. everyone is so laid back, and is willing to do anything over a cup of tea.

the family i am hired by and staying/traveling with is roddy, a tour guide, rachel, an anthropologist, and their 2 and 4 year old daughters. the food has been so good here, and i have had lots and lots of tea. they eat mainly raw and always vegetarian. i am already learning some things from rachel, like sprouting.

they live in a small town called scarborough, just outside of cape town, south africa. the house sits on a higher road of the neighborhood, giving my bedroom windows a great view over the rest of the town and down to the shore. the town is surrounded by national park and mountains, and other than the baboons and loud birds, it is really quiet. there are a lot of vacation homes in scarborough, and today i watched the surfers from my room.

later in the day, i walked to the shore to fly my kite and walk around on the beach for the sunset. while walking around a taking photos, i watched all the large snails slowly make their way around the rocks on the beach. i had never seen these types of snails, and they were good to watch. every third second or so they stick all their arms out, dance a little, and then pull them in like their song is over. on my way back to the house i determined that this beach is my new yoga mat.

. . . .

tomorrow morning we make pancakes and then pack to head off to our first lodge stay, at grootbus. we will be there for three days shooting video and photos as a sample of our work for the rest of the trip.

hope everything is well back home for all of you, and until my return to scarborough, i send my love. and this wallpaper.

cheers to more rooibos and berger cookies,

tbk
